I have always wanted to try out a hydration vest for those long training runs especially in the summer when I need more hydration than normal. But, I wasn’t sure what to look for when searching for one. I normally carry a handheld bottle and would plan my runs around where bubblers were located but that doesn’t always work. I also have tried a belt but it always seemed to slide up and I felt like I was spending so much time tugging at it to get it in a comfortable place on my body. So, when I was offered the Amphipod to try out I jumped on the chance to try it. I didn’t know how comfortable it would be but I was pleasantly surprised at the level of comfort it provided.
It was not heavy and it did not rub or bounce while I was running. There are three straps that are adjustable and they slide up or down as well so you can get the perfect fit. It comes with two 12 oz. flasks and a thin elastic strap that fits over the bottle to keep it secure. There is also a place in the back to put a bladder if you choose to. I do not have one but I am planning on buying one soon. There are several pockets that have enough room to carry everything you need. In the two front pockets I had a gel, a tube of Nuun, some Clif blocks and my phone. AND, there still was room for more! The pockets in the back I put my house key and some Kleenex but you would need to take the vest off in order to reach those items. But I like that they are there and you could always store extra fuel in them if you need to.
This vest comes in two different sizes. I was struggling with what size to get because I fall between the two sizes. I went with size 1 but could have easily been happy with size 2 as well. It is a little snug but with being able to adjust it, it works great. I do like to have things a bit tighter fitting so as not to bounce or move around too much.
There really isn’t anything I can say I dislike about this vest. But don’t take my word for it…..Here is what some of my fellow BibRave Pros had to say:
