This year I was excited that I was able to attend the BibRave Summit in Chicago as well as run the Rock N Roll Chicago 10k.Fellow friend and BibRave Pro Amy and I left for our adventure Thursday night. We spent the night in Kenosha so that we didn’t have to get up so early to catch the train. This was my first time taking the train to Chicago (I usually drive in) and it was super easy and convenient.
On the ride into Chicago we found out that the service project that we were going to be doing was canceled due to the heat. I was a bit bummed because I was really looking forward to that. But, we were still going to meet up with the Orange crew.We had a short walk from the train station to our hotel. We were rooming with three other BibRave Pros (Stephanie, Jenn and Jessica) that we had never met in person.
These ladies were just as awesome as I thought they would be and we all hit it off immediately. It was like we had known each other forever! In a sense we did because we have been communicating online as well as on slack for quite some time. After dropping our stuff off at the hotel Amy and I grabbed a lyft and headed to the park to meet up with the BibRave crew. It was so great finally getting to meet the founders behind the BibRave community Tim and Jessica. They were so sweet and welcoming. And we found out that Tim was originally from Wisconsin too! We also got to meet Julia, Andy, Don and Carolyn as well as several other pros. They all were so welcoming and sweet. While most of the others went for a run, Amy, Don and I stayed back and shared some cheese curds 😍. After that we went for donuts, hung out a bit then headed back to the hotel to get ready to go to the expo. We met up with the rest of our roomies and started our journey to the expo.
After the expo we went back to get ready for the Orange carpet event at City Winery which was sponsored by Knockaround sunglasses. We had a professional photographer there taking pictures which was fun.
There were drinks and a fabulous dinner. We also were gifted two pair of sunglasses from Knockaround. One custom pair of BibRave orange and a new limited collection pair (second wind). We also got an awesome orange shirt to wear to the Cubs game the next day.Saturday we met up on the lakefront for a shakeout run and an awesome professional photo shoot. I didn’t want to run because of my plantar fasciitis but I didn’t want to miss the photo shoot so I hung out while the others ran. When they were done we had coffee and donuts and had more pictures taken. It was so cool!
We walked back to the hotel after and got ready for the Cubs game. This was my first time at Wrigley Field so that was a great experience. It was 106° with the heat index so it was a bit steamy there but we had fun.
Had to have a Chicago dog and then around the 5th inning we left to get ready for dinner that night.Dinner was at Current Kitchen and sponsored by Aftershokz.
The photographer was there again for more pictures! We also were the live audience for the recording of the BibRave Podcast with hosts Tim and Jessica, as well as guest Cindy Kuzma, author of the upcoming book, Rebound: Train Your Mind to Bounce Back Stronger from Sports Injuries which is available now for pre-order on Amazon. Some of what she talked about really resonated with me and I knew I had to talk one on one with her after.
She was super sweet and thanked me for sharing my story with her. Dinner was awesome and we had some special BibRave themed desserts.
We woke up early Sunday morning and got ready for the race. It was warm but thankfully not as warm as Friday and Saturday had been. We walked to the start line and met up with the BibRave crew for pics and then hit the port o potty line. By the time I got near the corrals it was so packed I couldn’t get in and had to wait until several other corrals ahead of us took off. The half and the 10k were together for a short time then they split off. I have run the half twice before and did the 10k this year. I loved the course which was mostly along the lake. You can read my full race review on the BibRave site.
We waited until all of the BibRave Pros finished the race then we walked back to the hotel, showered, packed and met everyone for lunch before heading back home on the train. It was a whirlwind weekend and one I’ll NEVER forget. My roomies and I are already working on trying to plan our next adventure!
